ACUPUNCTURE AND OTHER MODALITIES

In addition to acupuncture, your treatment may also include other traditional Chinese medicine techniques, such as:

Tuina
Moxibustion
Cupping
Gua Sha
Chinese Herbal Formulas
Nutrition
Essential Oils
Flower Essences

Tuina
Tuina is a specialized Chinese massage technique that literally translates as “push pull.” This technique involves brushing, kneading, rolling, or rubbing along specific areas of the body, meridians or acupuncture points to facilitate the movement of energy or blood. This is an excellent technique for both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, as well as many non-musculoskeletal conditions.

Moxibustion
Moxibustion is a heat treatment that involves the use of the herb mugwort, or Artemesia vulgaris. Moxabustion is used to warm regions or specific acupuncture points with the intention of stimulating circulation through the points, and/or inducing a smoother flow of energy and blood.

Cupping
Cupping involves placing glass cups over the skin at key acupuncture points to produce a vacuum and promote the circulation of energy through the meridians. It can often be used in the treatment of respiratory diseases such as the common cold, pneumonia, and bronchitis or for musculoskeletal pain along the back, neck, and shoulders.

Gua Sha
Gua Sha entails palpation and repeated pressured strokes over lubricated skin with a smooth edge, such as a ceramic spoon. Gua Sha is used like a massage technique in order to clear out blockage, or promote normal circulation and metabolic processes in the muscles and tissues.

Chinese Herbal Formulas
Traditional Chinese herbal medicine is used to treat a variety of conditions and balance the body’s energies. Herbal medicine works well in combination with acupuncture to speed the healing process. Kendra is a board certified herbalist and has completed extra training in the usage of Chinese herbal medicine. She has a full herbal pharmacy of both single powdered herbs and patent formulas which gives her the unique ability to design a formula that is specifically made for you and your body.

Nutrition
Kendra uses her training in both traditional Chinese dietary theory and western nutrition in order to educate and provide you with dietary information meant for your individual make-up, or constitution. She will also educate you on using food as medicine, chewing and tasting mindfully, and healing emotional eating.

Essential Oils
We are a society that has become highly dependent on sight. But what about our sense of smell? We are so over stimulated by all of the highly synthesized smells that surround us that we have tuned out our sense of smell. The therapeutic use of essential oils gives us the opportunity to activate this sense, while stimulating the limbic system and unlocking old memories and emotions. Kendra uses high quality essential oils along particular acupuncture points or body areas in combination with acupuncture to further facilitate the healing process.

Flower Essences
Flower Essences are similar to homeopathic remedies in that they are very small dilutions of flowers. This system was first introduced in 1930 by an English physician, Dr. Edward Bach. The remedies are safe and gentle, and are used to address mental/emotional states that contribute to physical imbalances and disease.
